紫花椒[2]是茄科的一个物种，叶子有绒毛，有黑色的种子，且果实具刺鼻味，有黄色、橘色、红色及棕色等各种颜色。
紫花椒大多在中美洲及南美洲等地栽培，可直接用于料理，或做成酱，制成干货或磨成粉。在所有“辣椒属”的人工栽培种当中，紫花椒最不普及，且在基因上更为疏远。[3]
用途[编辑]
紫花椒的果实在南美洲料理中有各种用途，其果肉比其他辣椒更厚，跟甜椒的大小相当[4]，辣度则与一般常见的辣椒差不多，约在5万至25万SHU之间[5]。
